A man has been charged following a fatal collision that claimed the lives of five people in Strathmerton yesterday.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of the Murray Valley Highway and Labuan Road about 2.30pm.
It’s understood a Mercedes sedan struck a Nissan Navara which was then hit by a B-double tanker.
All five occupants of the Nissan died at the scene.
The deceased driver, a woman, is believed to be aged in her 60s.
Her four passengers killed were three women and a man, all aged in their 20s.
A dog in the Navara also died.
The driver of the truck, a 55-year-old man from Marionvale, was not injured and stopped at the scene.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 29-year-old man from Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, and his 20-year-old female passenger from Melbourne’s southeast were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries
The 29-year-old man has since been charged with five counts of dangerous driving causing death and will face Shepparton Magistrates’ Court shortly.
