Mahalia Barnes
Mahalia Barnes has been around music her entire life. Throughout her childhood years she was exposed to everything from Ray Charles to Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin to Donny Hathaway and to Stevie Wonder, all of whom helped shape her into the powerhouse soul and blues vocalist that has jaws dropping every time she picks up a mic. Barnes and her band, The Soul Mates, have released 3 albums and consistently play to capacity crowds around the country.

Benny Walker
Yorta Yorta singer/songwriter Benny Walker is the real deal. He’s got the voice, the songs, the showmanship and the looks to kill. His love songs and epic tales are mixed with passion for people, the land, summer vibes and deep grooves that reach the soul. Said to possess one of the best voices in Australia, Walker never fails to take you on a emotionally driven sonic journey.

The Meltdown
Having built their sound off the back of mesmerising live performances, they were signed to label Hopestreet Recordings in 2015 and released ‘Better Days’ soon after their 2022 album It’s a long road. The soaring voice of Simon Burke is beautifully soul, but it’s something else indefinable … like you’ve heard him before but don’t know where. The rhythm section create a hypnotic spacious groove to lean upon and the horns gracefully tie it all together. This stellar band bring a blend of Motown with a healthy dose of Nashville songwriting tradition. Songs to move your heart and your feet as echoes of Memphis soul resonate. The Meltdown continue the tradition of world class soul bands to emerge from Melbourne, and they’ll wrap you in their warm embrace.

Mayfield
Soul and funk band Mayfield have a strong live reputation as being a staple in the thriving Melbourne scene for the past decade. They have a high level of musicianship and an ability to get people on the dance floor. Mayfield released their long-awaited follow up single ‘Get you Together’ in 2022 after releasing their debut album Victim of Circumstance. The band is fronted by vocal powerhouse, Carla Troiano, who is also a featured vocalist on Melbourne’s Women of Soul Collective, a collaboration with other female artists such as Kylie Auldist, Chelsea Wilson and Stella Angelico. Mayfield are looking forward to being a part of Twilight Sounds 2023 and celebrating live music and community.
