Unauthorised tree loppers approaching residents in Nillumbik area
Nillumbik Council has received reports from residents that tree loppers have been door knocking in the Shire, offering to provide unsolicited tree removal works. The tree removal works often occur soon after and cash payment is negotiated. It has also been reported that the contractors can then recommend that additional trees should also be removed for safety purposes, resulting in significant tree removal works.
Please be aware that tree removal in Nillumbik generally requires a planning permit and you should always check with Council first to see what planning controls apply to your property. Property owners are responsible for ensuring the necessary approvals in place before any vegetation is removed.
When engaging a contractor, we would encourage residents request and obtain proof of qualifications and insurance details from anyone offering tree removal services. You should also check that the business has a valid ABN or ACN.
